In 1902, a local farmer heard a metal sound when ploughing his field on Trundholm Moor. He found the Sun Chariot - probably the finest discovery of the Bronze Age.
The travel of the sun 
The original Sun Chariot is in the National Museum. Whilst a fine copy made by Georg Hansen is part of the exhibition "Land of the Sun" in Odsherreds Kulturhistoriske Museum together with other significant finds from the Bronze Age. At the exhibition, the visitor will learn about the religious beliefs of the Bronze Age, an important part of which was the sun as a precondition for life and rebirth.
The Sun Chariot symbolizes the sun’s travel across the heavens during the day and through the darkness of the underworld during the night.
The circle and the sun are important symbols of Bronze Age culture. Circular figures and spirals are seen on knives, necklaces and belt adornments, while rock carvings show the sun wheel, horses and ships.
Odsherred is known for its many Bronze Age finds. Exhibitions show – apart from the Sun Chariot – the Engelstrup stone with petroglyphs as well as a collection of Bronze Age jewellery and tools.
Naval Battle by Sj. Odde on the 22nd March 1808
This year marks the 200 year anniversary of the Naval Battle by Sjællands Odde.
„Prins Christian Frederik“ was the last liner after the English had taken the fleet. On board of the ship, which was under the commando of Captain Jessen were 576 men, including the naval hero from the Battle on Reden in 1801, lieutenant Peter Willemoes.
After the dramatic battle against 3 liners and 2 frigates the battle was over and „Prinds Christian Frederik“ sank near Sj. Odde. Willemoes and 63 men were killed and 129 injured during the battle on 22nd March 1808. On the late evening of 23rd March 1808 the ship was blown up. This was the end of Denmarks big era of being a great European Naval Nation.
The Museum marks the 200 year anniversary of the Naval Battle with a new and exhiting exhibition showing the events, naval hero Willemoes and pulls the threads to the present, Denmark being a leading nation of war.
